Youth Theatre Ensemble

Youth Theatre Ensemble presentation of Shu Shu Shushan at Purim

Toronto's Secular Jewish Community School's creative answer to a post-graduation youth group, the Youth Theatre Ensemble offers an exceptional opportunity for teens aged 13-17 to connect, all while learning Jewish–themed theatre from a professional.

Ensemble members meet in the evenings, once a week, for two hours. Classes are designed to encourage self-confidence, creativity, trust and group dynamics through the exploration of improvisation, character development, storytelling, method acting and physical theatre. Each gathering begins with socializing over a meal, to encourage friendships to grow. Through monologue and scene study work, as well as workshops with guest artists and trips to local plays, students are introduced to both classic and contemporary Jewish plays and playwrights. Each term culminates in a performance at a community event.
